STONEHAM (WBZ NewsRadio) — Stoneham officials say a busy street is closed after seven power poles fell over in the middle of the street. Drivers and pedestrians are being asked to avoid Montvale Avenue. Stoneham Acting Fire Chief Dave Eastman says the street will be closed into Thursday.

Stoneham Police said they weren't exactly sure how the poles fell over, but they began to get dozens of calls at about 9:30 a.m. The street is blocked off between Lindenwood Road and Maple Street.

The driver of a tractor-trailer on the scene was trapped in the cabin of the truck by downed wires. They were later freed after power was cut off.

Eversource said more than 400 customers lost power, and about 385 were in the dark as of 2:00 PM. The Stoneham Fire Department said it had to dispatch a Hazmat team to the scene, as two of the fallen transformers started leaking.

No injuries were reported.
