QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Malachy's Saloon in Quincy is the latest filming location for an upcoming Matt Damon and Casey Affleck movie.
Damon and Affleck's "The Instigators" has been filming in and around Boston over the past week, including Bova's Bakery in the North End, the Boston Fire Department station on Cambridge Street, Faneuil Hall, and Boston City Hall Plaza.
Now set dressers are getting the Irish pub on Granite Street ready for the silver screen.
"They’re shooting two different places here," Quincy Media Director Mark Carey told WBZ NewsRadio Tuesday. "They’re shooting an interior here at Malachy’s that’ll be in the movie, as a matter of fact, and I guess it’s the name of the bar as well. Same with the Squantum Yacht Club in Quincy."
Carey noted that Quincy loves being a film-friendly city because it benefits everyone, including businesses.
"Every one of those parking lots belongs to somebody, and they end up paying pretty well," Carey said. "And it’s a great economic stimulus, if you will, from time to time when they do come. And it’s also exciting for the city."
"The Instigators" follows two thieves who go on the run with the help of one of their therapists after a robbery goes awry, according to Deadline. In addition to Damon and Affleck, the cast list also includes Hong Chau ("The Whale"), Paul Walter Hauser ("Blackbird"), Michael Stuhlbarg ("Boardwalk Empire"), Ving Rhames ("Mission: Impossible"), Alfred Molina ("Spider-Man 2"), and Ron Perlman ("Hellboy").
The film is being directed by Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity") and will be released on Apple TV+.
