MALDEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A five-year-old boy is dead after he was found in a backyard pool Thursday, the Middlesex District Attrorney's office said.

Malden Police responded to a call about a child missing from a Princeton Road home shortly before noon.

Ditson Francois, who lives next door, told WBZ NewsRadio's Carl Stevens that he found the boy.

"I saw his shoe by the pool, and his jacket by the pool," he said. "I looked inside the pool and I saw him at the bottom, so I jumped the fence and got him out."

The child was rushed to Melrose Wakefield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 1 p.m.
