BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Thanksgiving inches closer, many folks are traveling out of the Greater Boston area to visit their family. While many are driving and flying, many are taking the train in hopes of circumventing the travel chaos.

DJ from Brighton was traveling to Pennsylvania Wednesday morning, and said she was taking the train as a way to avoid all of the stress that comes with airport security.

“It’s a lot easier to just hop on the train,” DJ said. “I can bring liquids, I already have my food and everything, I don’t need to go through security, and I think timewise it kind of evens out.”

Sammi, a local college student, was traveling to Maryland for the holiday, and said the highlight of taking the train is the comfortability.

“The seats will be comfortable, I’ll be able to watch my movies, I’ll be able to sleep,” Sammi said. “I have no complaints; I can spend 7 hours wisely.”

One man traveling out of Boston agreed with the hassle of airport security, but also said driving would take him through New York City, which isn’t ideal for him.

“Driving’s kind of a mess getting through New York City and then flying with security takes the same amount of time,” he said. “It’s easier to just walk on the train and get down there.”

To encourage traveling by train, the Commuter Rail is offering $10 passes for unlimited travel from Thursday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Nov. 30.
