BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Many schools in Massachusetts were closed Wednesday, dismissed students for early release, or faced delays as a nor'easter battered the coast and Cape Cod.
Schools cited the weather conditions outside, many putting out newsletters for students to stay safe. Numerous districts on the South Shore and Cape Cod, like Brockton, Plymouth, Barnstable, Sandwich, and Martha's Vineyard were all closed, and Bridgewater State University canceled all day classes for Wednesday.

The nor'easter that swept over the Greater Boston Area downed trees and caused serious power outages across the state. Maps provided by MEMA showed that heavy outages struck the South Shore hard, with the majority of Plymouth County having more than 80% of their residents without electricity as of Wednesday afternoon. Some gusts pushed 90 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials across Massachusetts said they do not recommend traveling in the high winds.
