Marblehead Fireworks Canceled After Barge Catches Fire Overnight

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The July 4th Marblehead Fireworks and Harbor Illumination was canceled after a barge caught fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The Marblehead Fire Department and the Marblehead Harbormaster responded to the barge fire at the mouth of the harbor early Thursday morning around 1 a.m.

The U.S Coast Guard Station Gloucester, Beverly Fire Department, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police were also on the scene.

On Thursday morning, the Marblehead Fireworks Committee officially announced that the fireworks were canceled.

No one was on the barge at the time and there have been no reported injuries, said the Committee.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the Marblehead Fire Department asked anyone with photos or videos of the fire to send them in to help with the investigation.

The fireworks had been originally scheduled for Thursday at 9 p.m.
