MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Rectangular communication boards adorned with colorful pictures of swing sets, smiley faces and commands now stand among the slides and carousels at five playgrounds around Marblehead.
Children who rely on communication technologies can point at the pictures to indicate their needs.
"To be able to walk up to the playground and see these communication boards really just validates their way of communicating," local speech pathologist Jessica Brown said.
Brown installed the communication boards at five playgrounds with help from the Marblehead Family Fund and her clinic, The Power of Speech.
She said she has already received positive feedback from local parents and plans to install more signs at other parks in the future.
