MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Authorities in Marblehead are alerting residents about a jogger who was attacked by what's believed to be a coyote.

It happened on Monday evening while a jogger was out in the Marblehead Neck area on Brown Street.

After an investigation, it was determined that the animal involved in the biting incident appeared to be a coyote.

While authorities say the jogger was not seriously injured and rabid wild animals are rare, people like Patrick Dooley have taken notice.

Patrick lives in Salem but frequently walks the Marblehead Neck area. "It's a little disturbing," he said.

He added that he recently had an interaction with a coyote but never felt threatened. "Our encounter with a coyote was very peaceful and he was just not interested."

Police are asking people to report any coyote sightings over the next few days.
