BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Wednesday marks the first day of Marine Week Boston to honor 250 years of service by the United States Marine Corps.
Several activities will take place at local landmarks like City Hall Plaza, Faneuil Hall, and Boston Common, to celebrate the occasion. Multiple helicopters are scheduled to land on the Boston Common baseball field on Wednesday evening to kick off the week of events.
All week, Bay Staters are invited to participate in the activities, including working out with the Marines from 7 to 8 a.m., followed by a daily wreath-laying ceremony held at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common. Afterwards, you can head to Boston City Hall for the morning and evening colors ceremonies. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try on official gear, test out the equipment, and watch demonstrations by the Silent Drill Platoon and the Quantico Marine Band.
The celebratory week will wrap on Sunday, Aug. 24, with a closing ceremony featuring performances and remarks from senior leaders.
The U.S. Marine Corps has gained a reputation as one of the most distinguished naval infantry forces in the world since its inception in 1775.
