NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new Market Basket officially opened its doors on Friday, sharing the same address of the location that closed the day prior.
The old store at 350 Winthrop Ave. closed fully after 44 years at 5 p.m. on Thursday, with employees emptying shelves and transferring goods right next door to the larger remodeled location, which opened for business at 7 a.m. the next day.
On Instagram, Market Basket framed this as a ‘grand (re)opening’ rather than a typical grand opening, as this new location was treated as a seamless continuation of the old location’s business.
Jim from Lawrence was one of the first people to step foot in the new Market Basket, and he was thrilled about the larger store, although it will take some time for him to get used to.
“Finally, because we now have Tuscan Village, which is a very large Market Basket, and it’s about time they enlarged this one,” Jim said. “You have to spend a couple of hours to learn where everything is, so it’s great.”

Lisa from South Lawrence is also excited about the upgraded store, although she misses what this new location has replaced.
“Glad because it’s going to be more to offer, but I was sad that Kohls closed,” Lisa said. “That’s the only negative I guess.”
Market Basket also announced on Instagram that they will be running special deals from Aug. 22 through Aug. 30 in celebration of the ‘grand (re)opening.’
