DANVERS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —  With the constant rise of grocery prices, the incentive to save becomes increasingly apparent. In this economy, every dollar saved matters.

Consumers Checkbook, an online price research website, compared all the major Boston area grocery stores, comparing the total cost of 150 items, ranking them on price, and also customer satisfaction when it comes to product quality.

The number one spot locally, goes to Market Basket.

“I definitely shop here because of the prices and, you know, the quality of food,” one Market Basket shopper said.

Although in the news for its ongoing power struggle within the Demoulas family, the local grocery store remains the top spot to shop for families.

“I raise kids, and if you go to Stop & Shop, if you go to Whole Foods, it's a few dollars more,” a Market Basket customer said.

While Market Basket came in as the best, when combining price and quality, ALDI comes in a the cheapest, with Price Rite following right behind as the second cheapest.
