MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — What happens when a local microbrewery develops a new lager by combining an obscure, yet classic, Seinfeld reference with a likeness of Drake Maye?

The result is a smash best-seller they can't keep in stock.

Marshfield's Stellwagon Beer Company was trying to come up with a new brew product idea last year when they hit it big by taking the Seinfeld 'Drake' reference and tying it to a generic quarterback with the number 10 and calling the new lager 'Love the Drake.'

Stellwagon founder Mike Snowdale said the company's head of sales, Eddie Letsche, came up with the idea.

After a relatively slow start, Snowdale said 'Love the Drake' has become a best-seller, especially given the rise of the Patriots this season to their first playoff appearance since the 2021-22 season.

"You know, Drake Maye, and the combination 'Love the Drake!' And since then, it's just been picked up, and it's gone a little viral on social media," he said.

From a legal perspective, the product's affiliation with Drake Maye is purely by appearance only.

And the company said it hasn't received any copyright calls from the New England Patriots.

The lager itself is described as a 'bright, light crushable, subtly citrusy 4.6% ABV.'

Snowdale said 'Love the Drake' is so popular that it's been difficult to keep up with the demand.

But he said they will do their best to ensure they have enough to last throughout an entire playoff run.
