BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Martin Richard Foundation is hosting a collection drive leading up the Boston Marathon in honor of One Boston Day.

One Boston Day will be observed on Monday, the same day as the Boston Marathon. It is meant as a city-wide day of service and reflection.

According to the Martin Richard Foundation, the day is meant to “reflect on the spirit and resilience of the people Boston and those around the world who responded with kindness to the loss and tragedy of the bombings at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.”

The collection drive is working to gather items — such as nightlights, earbuds, and new stuffed animals — for “Emergency Hero Kits.” The kits are meant for children who abruptly enter the foster care system. Sometimes they come into it without any personal belongings, according to the Martin Richard Foundation.

The kits will be assembled on May 19 as part of their Spring Service Day.

Brian Peters, the general manager of The Pour House Bar and Grill in Boston, signed on to be a drop off location for the collection drive. But, he said not many people have been dropping off donations.

"So far, not too many. Up until a couple days ago there was nothing in the box. I would have liked it to be a little bit more full," Peters said.

A few other collection locations said they have not been seeing many donations either.

Collection areas are located throughout Boston.
