BOXFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It was a win for the ages last Friday night when the Masconomet Chieftains high school football team beat the Marblehead Magicians 45-42, overcoming a 17-point deficit in 5 minutes.

The improbable victory in Boxford gave Masco the Northeastern Conference Dunn Division title and kept Marblehead from an unbeaten season.

Masco Senior Jack Fabiano lunged into the end zone for a 1-yard score with 11 seconds left, capping off an incredible performance that included 376 yards of total offense. "There is something different to Jack Fabiano, and I can't put my finger on it," said Masco Head Coach Pat Sheehan. "He's a leader and he's absolutely one of the greats here."

Masco senior quarterback Drew Gustafson threw for two long touchdowns, including a 67-yarder.

Fabiano, meanwhile, said the win was payback of sorts after losing to Marblehead over the years. "We lost to them last year in the NEC championship, and we haven't beaten them since youth (football), so it's great to beat them, especially this last game of the year for the championship."
