BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MassDOT has announced the student winners of the 2024 Safe Routes to School Program Yard Sign Design Contest. The contest raises and promotes awareness for safe ways for students to walk and bike to school, and students from kindergarten through eighth grade were eligible to participate from schools that participate in the Safe Routes to School program, according to a MassDOT press release.

“Making our streets safe and inclusive for everyone is a priority, and we are grateful to students who are helping us to get this message across,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. Tibbits-Nutt expressed her gratitude and appreciation to all students who participated in the Yard Sign Design Contest which this year, was focused on a core theme of school bus safety. “The more publicity we do around safety, the safer our roads become,” she added.

The students with the winning designs hailed from the communities of Brookline, Maynard, and Andover.

The Massachusetts SRTS Program currently serves more than 1,160 schools in over 280 communities across the Commonwealth.
