BOSTON (State House News Service) — The trend of strong revenues and state tax collections at the state's casinos and slots parlor continued in October as the three facilities generated more than $26.8 million for state coffers from nearly $96 million in gross gaming revenue, the Mass. Gaming Commission announced Monday.

Encore Boston Harbor led the way, generating $32.2 million of gross revenue from the roughly $377 million wagered on its slots and another $30.58 million in gross revenue from its table games. The Everett casino's $62.8 million in gross gaming revenue represents about two-thirds of last month's statewide total.

MGM Springfield counted about $16.88 million in gross revenue from the $202.4 million that gamblers put into its slot machines last month and took in another $4.56 million of revenue from its table games.

Encore and MGM Springfield are both taxed at a rate of 25 of gross gaming revenue. The state can expect about $15.7 million in taxes from Encore's October revenue and $5.36 million in taxes from the Springfield casino's performance.

The Plainridge Park Casino slots parlor took in more than $170.5 million in wagers last month and kept 6.88 percent of it as revenue, or about $11.74 million. Of that, Massachusetts is due 49 percent or about $5.75 million in taxes.

The trend of strong gaming taxes began in July, when the state's three gambling centers counted $95.74 million in revenue and turned over a record $27 million in taxes and fees to the state. August saw $92 million in casino revenue and $26.15 million in state taxes, and September's roughly $89 million in gross gaming revenue generated about $25.1 million for the state.

Since Plainridge Park Casino opened in June 2015, Massachusetts has collected about $921 million in taxes and assessments from gaming licensees, the Gaming Commission said.
