BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gas prices in Massachusetts have reached a new record high after about a month of declines. The new record average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Massachusetts is $4.39 according to AAA, three cents above the old record of $4.36 a gallon on March 11.

Prices have risen 18 cents on average in a week.

Nationally, AAA says increasing crude oil prices and growing demand are behind the price increases. Diesel prices are also rising, with a new record high in Massachusetts of $6.27 as of Monday.

Truckers on the Mass Pike who spoke to WBZ NewsRadio were trying out different strategies to maximize efficiency.

"I do shorter loads and more of them," said John. "It makes me get smarter and more strategic about my routes," he said. Some of the John's trips have now been shelved.
