BOSTON (State House News Service) — The national average price for gas rose last week for the first time since September, and a AAA analyst said Massachusetts prices "could move back and forth for the next month or so."
AAA reported Tuesday that the average price of gasoline in Massachusetts was $3.23 per gallon, down 3 cents from the week before and 17 cents lower than a month ago. At this time in 2022, the average price of gas here was $3.37 per gallon.
The average gas price in Massachusetts is 11 cents higher than the $3.12 per gallon national average, which increased by 4 cents last week.
AAA said oil prices have been "holding relatively steady" amidst "mixed news."
"Ongoing tensions in the vital Red Sea shipping corridor caused by militants attacking cargo ships has created upward pressure on oil prices," AAA said. "At the same time, typical year-end profit taking from commodity traders has tempered the increases. Additionally, the coastal African nation of Angola announced it would be leaving OPEC -- a sign of the Saudi-led cartel's waning influence on global oil markets."
