BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In the wake of reports suggesting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to disclose gifts and vacations he received from a Republican billionaire donor, Massachusetts lawmakers are calling for changes centered on accountability in the high court.

Gathering in Boston's Copley Square, Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren, along with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, launched the "Just Majority," a 20-stop nationwide bus tour to call for in the Supreme Court.

“This far-right, extremist Court has demonstrated time and again, it has contempt for the people. Through its partisan decisions and its repeated ethics violations, the Supreme Court is actively undermining our democracy. The Supreme Court is meant to ensure equal justice under the law, but in its current configuration the highest court repeatedly overturned the will of the majority of the people,” Congresswoman Pressley said.

“This Court has put the rights of all Americans in jeopardy, but especially those of people of color, women, immigrants, and LGBTQ+, rural and low income communities. All of them are now at great risk," Senator Markey said.

Among the demands of the Just Majority campaign, lawmakers want term limits, ethics oversight, and four seats added to the Supreme Court in the wake of what they call partisan rulings, referencing the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Also in attendance were former Biden Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States Commissioner Caroline Fredrickson, March For Our Lives Board Secretary David Hogg, GLAD Executive Director Janson Wu, and reproductive rights advocate and former Planned Parenthood official Alencia Johnson.
