Mass. National Guard Troops Return From Washington D.C.

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Some local National Guard troops started arriving back at the Armory in Melrose early Saturday evening to cheers and waves from local residents.

Gov. Baker had sent 500 members of the state's National Guard to the Capitol last week, to help guard against any potential violence during President Joe Biden's inauguration.

Mayor Paul Brodeur tweeted about the troops' return, saying busloads of National Guards were due back between 4:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Saturday depending on traffic.

The buses, carrying members of the 182nd infantry unit, were scheduled to turn down West Wyoming Avenue and onto Main Street where armory is.

Mayor Brodeur encouraged people to line up along the route and show their support.
