BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In the latest ranking from the U.S. News and World Report for the best public high schools, Massachusetts appeared most frequently out of 24,000 schools measured.

Out of the selected 18,000 schools nationwide in the study, 43% of schools in the Bay State appear in the top quarter of the annual ranking. School rankings were based on graduation rates, performance on state assessments, college readiness, and other similar areas.

The list includes a mix of traditional and charter schools. Lexington High School and Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School placed top three, with Boston Latin School keeping the top spot from last year's ranking.

Boston Latin School ranked 46th in the national ranking, a drop from last year's ranking of 26th.

Massachusetts was followed by Connecticut with the most appearances at 43% and New Jersey at 40%.
