Mass. Reps. Jim McGovern, Bill Keating Visit Ukrainian Capital

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Saturday, Congressman of the 2nd District of Massachusetts and Chairman of the U.S House Committee on Rules Jim McGovern joined Congressman of the 9th District of Massachusetts and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a trip to Ukraine, the first official Congressional delegation to have visited the country following Russia's invasion.

The full delegation includes Chairman Jim McGovern, Chairman Gregory Meeks, Chairman Adam Schiff, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Congressman Bill Keating and Congressman Jason Crow, who will continue to travel in southeast Poland and Warsaw, officials said in a statement to WBZ NewsRadio.

“Our delegation traveled to Kyiv to send an unmistakable and resounding message to the entire world: America stands firmly with Ukraine," the joint statement read, "Our meeting with President Zelenskyy began with him thanking the United States for the substantial assistance that we have provided. He conveyed the clear need for continued security, economic and humanitarian assistance from the United States to address the devastating human toll taken on the Ukrainian people by Putin's diabolic invasion."

The statement says that McGovern and Keating assisted in delegations that delivered the message to Ukraine that additional American support is on the way, as Congress works to make President Biden's funding request a reality in a legislative package. The delegation party travels to Poland next, speaking with allies there to thank them for their dedication and humanitarian efforts, officials say.
