BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Online grocery shopping has become a new way to browse the shelves in the past years, making it much easier for those with busier days to get what they need.
Since its start, residents enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) have not been able to use their benefits online. However, a new partnership from the State with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Walmart has changed that.
The new pilot program offers the option of pickup orders or grocery delivery from almost 50 Walmarts around the state. Those orders would also use WIC benefits.
The Department of Public Health stated about 125,000 residents are using WIC benefits and the implementation of the new program could help ease problems such as language barriers, time constraints, and lack of transportation.
DPH said this program can provide a more modern, accessible, and convenient option for those grocery shopping with WIC.
