Mass. State Rep. Nguyen Turns Voicemails Over To FBI

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — State Representative Tram Nguyen, who serves the 18th Essex district, is running for reelection. But the Democrat says a robocall, which she never endorsed, is calling people in her district.

"We were forwarded voicemails from a robocall from certain constituents in the district that was very disturbing, with false accusations of my position," Nguyen said. "The person claims to be calling from the Mass. 'Democrat' Party."

According to the Boston Globe, a lawyer for the MDP released a statement saying "the scurrilous, racist robocall messages did not originate with the Massachusetts Democratic Party, and they were obviously calculated to confuse and deceive voters."

Nguyen said the robocalls are urging people to vote for her in a racist and offensive manner, saying "if you believe less white people means less racism, please vote for Representative Tram Nguyen," and she said the caller pronounces her name completely wrong.

Rep. Nguyen said she has turned over the recordings to the FBI, as well as the state and federal Attorneys General.
