Mass. State Trooper Struck, Injured By Car While Assisting At Prior Crash

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Massachusetts State Police trooper was struck and injured by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of a prior crash Saturday night, state police said.

Officials said the trooper was struck as he was getting out of his cruiser just before 11 p.m. on I-195 West in New Bedford. The trooper was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was evaluated, treated, and eventually released.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the trooper also suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation into the crash to determine if the driver will face charges is underway.
