Massachusetts Daily Coronavirus Death Toll Jumps

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Roughly two months after the first COVID-19 cases and deaths were reported in the state, Massachusetts has surpassed 80,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health also reported a jump in COVID-related deaths, after five days of the state's daily death toll dropping into single digits.

With an additional 174 deaths reported on Wednesday, the highest single-day count in May, the state's coronavirus death toll now stands at more than 5,300.

The DPH said the hospitalization rate for coronavirus remains at four percent in Massachusetts, and Wednesday also marks one week where less than 15 percent of the state's coronavirus tests have been positive.
