BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Starting in a month, lottery tickets will be a bit pricier than usual.
Late last year, Mass Lottery announced that they would be changing the price of Mega Millions tickets from $2 to $5.
According to lottery officials, this change was decided upon as a way to improve jackpot odds, generate more frequent giant prizes and allow for even larger payouts.
When asked about these price changes, Massachusetts lottery participants were split.
Some were turned off at the prospect of having to pay more.
“I play religiously,” one woman said. “(But) I’m not going to deal with this, it’s ridiculous.”
That (price) is a significant jump,” another Bostonian said.

Others were either unaffected by the change or actually plan to play more because of the increased odds and prize pools.
“It wouldn’t deter me,” one man said. “I’ll throw a couple bucks on it.”
“I’d still buy it,” someone else said.
“I’ll probably play more often,” another Boston man said.
This individual only plays when the stakes are high, making this emphasis on big prize pools more intriguing for those like him.
Ticket price increases will go into effect starting in April.
