Massachusetts Reports 1,139 New Cases Of COVID-19

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 1,139 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 155,660.

Middlesex County reported the largest portion of those new cases with 224, followed by 181 new cases in Essex County, 180 new cases in Suffolk County, and 123 new cases in Worcester County.

The state DPH also reported an additional 22 deaths among confirmed cases, upping the COVID-related death toll in Massachusetts to 9,788. There have also been 225 deaths among probable cases in the Commonwealth.

The state's three-day average number of patients hospitalized with the virus has risen since the start of the month, when there were an average of 424 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. On Sunday, there were 613 patients reported as hospitalized with the virus, 113 are receiving intensive care, and 55 are intubated.

According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. has nearly 9.2 million confirmed cases of the virus and more than 230,000 Americans have died of COVID-19 to date.
