BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — FEMA's 'Task Force One' search and rescue team based in Beverly is on it's way to Louisiana after being activated Wednesday because of Hurricane Laura.
Several dozen members loaded boats and other equipment onto trailers for the trip down to the hurricane ravaged state.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Amanda Wyrick says the team includes swimmers, crew and pilots, "Search and rescues is one of our 11 statutory missions so they are very well trained."
The crew departed via air and on sea, "We can fly a helicopter crew typically with four people. So, we took our 1-44 fixed-wing to help transport that crew."
Members of the task force also took about half a dozen boats down to Louisiana.
