BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — An evacuation was ordered this afternoon at the State House at about 2 p.m. after State Police say an electrical fire broke out in the building's basement in the transformer room.

The State House was closed for the remainder of the day due to elevated Co2 levels in the building, but by about 5 p.m., the fire was reported to be out and people were allowed back inside the building to collect their belongings.

Earlier in the day, the two-alarm fire sent smoke throughout parts of the building causing people inside including Governor Healey and Lt. Governor Driscoll to evacuate.

Boston Fire closed down streets around the State House including Cambridge, Bowdoin, and Beacon Streets which have since reopened.

State House News Services reported that this was the second evacuation of the building Tuesday.

The State House had to be cleared briefly around 11 a.m. after someone activated an emergency alarm.

Police are still reportedly investigating that activation.

There were no reports of any injuries from today's fire and evacuation.
