BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has launched its second annual billboard design contest to promote work zone safety and driver awareness.
MassDOT is running the contest for National Work Zone Awareness Week 2024, which runs April 15-19. This year's theme is "Work Zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever."
"We're looking for creative and impactful designs that promote work zone safety and encourage drivers to be aware and cautious when passing through active construction and maintenance projects," MassDOT said on its website.

The contest is open to all students currently enrolled in Massachusetts colleges and universities. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on April 19. Winners will be announced at the 2024 MassDOT Transportation Innovation Conference on April 30 and on MassDOT's social media.
The winning designs will be awarded a scholarship by the Massachusetts Aggregate and Asphalt Pavement Association (MAAPA).
2023's winners were Jailene Guzman (1st place), Julia Behring and Ella Quinn (2nd place), and Kelly Zeng (3rd place).
