BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has extended the deadline for its annual "Name A Snowplow" contest until 5 p.m. on Dec. 13.
The annual contest invites K-8 classrooms across the state to submit names to be displayed on the sides of 12 MassDOT snowplows throughout the winter. Last year's winning names included Flower Plower, Edward Blizzardhands and Glacier Gobbler.

"The purpose of the contest is to celebrate the snow and ice season and to help recognize the hard work and dedication shown by public works employees and contractors during the winter season," MassDOT said in a press release.
A panel composed of MassDOT employees will announce the winning classrooms — two from each Highway Division district — on Dec. 20. Each winning classroom will be invited to a snowplow unveiling event and receive a $100 gift certificate to be spent on school supplies.
