BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation [MassDOT] is looking for feedback on commuting around the Commonwealth.

Households will be selected at random for the Massachusetts Travel Study, which MassDOT hopes will help them “understand regional traffic patterns.” Those invited to participate will be asked to track their travel over the course of a week on the rMOVE app.

The study also asks participants to complete short surveys about their travel habits and daily trips logged on the rMOVE app. MassDOT will compensate participants with gift cards for each household participant, but only if every eligible person completes their surveys.

WBZ NewsRadio’s Chris Fama asked residents about their commutes and if they hoped to be chosen for the study.

“The bike lanes they’re trying to put everywhere [is making] traffic become worse,” said one man hoping to get picked for the study.

“I come from the West Coast, so I tell people all the time that the West Coast learns from the East Coast [on] how not to build their freeway system,” said a different man with no desire to participate.

“On a scale of one to ten, I would rate my commute at about an eight,” said one woman happy to offer input. “Some bike lines are impeding traffic flow.”
