BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston based mural artist Massiel Grullón is painting the town red, yellow, blue and just about every other color of the rainbow in collaboration with the City of Boston’s upcoming art installation Color Flows on Winter Street.
Winter Street in Downtown Crossing will be transformed during the installation, which will run for six weeks throughout the fall and will feature art, food trucks, interactive events and cultural programming.
For the installation, Grullón is currently working on a floor mural that will stretch the length of Winter Street in an effort that the city hopes will make pedestrian areas more engaging.
“The type of work I do its very nostalgic and very interactive,” said Grullón.
Grullón is no stranger to large city appointed murals as she previously created one for the city of Cambridge last year.
“I’ve done this type of floor mural piece before and the piece that I did before its in Kendall Common and it’s called ‘Rollerama’, it’s basically a roller-skating rink kind of similar to this type of idea,” said Grullón.
‘Rollerama’ was a 7,000-square-foot mural that allowed pedestrians to roller-skate along its multiple different blue colored curves.
In terms of this upcoming mural, Grullón hopes to finish it in a week as each section takes around three to four days to paint, then it can then be viewed and interacted with by the public.
“As it stretches the entire street people can walk on it, they can roller-skate and like interweave with the design however they feel like it,” said Grullón.
The mural will feature various vibrant colors and the signature curves that frequent her works.
When asked how it’s been to create such a large mural in an open and busy environment such as Winter Street Grullón said, “It’s like a marathon basically.”
Color Flows on Winter Street does not currently have a start date, but you can stay updated with the event by visiting Grullón’s Instagram.
