WESTBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — MassWildlife have officially reopened their public outdoor archery ranges for summer and fall 2025.
Six different ranges were set up around the state, located in Ayer, Norton/Taunton, Lenox, Westminster, Southampton, and Westborough. Four of them will be open until September 28 and the other two will be open until October 24.
Outdoor Education Specialist for MassWildlife Ian Sypek explained that each range has targets set up with 4 different distances: 10 yards, 20 yards, 30 yards and 40 yards.
Sypek also spoke about how the agency has seen this growing interest in archery and wanted to give people the ability to easily participate in the sport.
“We just recognize not everybody has access to a place for them to shoot archery,” Sypek said. “Perhaps you live in a place where you can’t legally do it, you don’t have enough space; you can come use this free space.”

The agency first opened these archery ranges last year, and Sypek said that the number of sign-ups for permits was very high.
“We had around a thousand folks who signed up for permits last year,” he said. “We’re hoping to bring that up to maybe between fifteen hundred and two thousand this year.”
Sypek also mentioned that they hope to open more ranges closer to Boston next year.
