BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A former Boston attorney is out on bail after pleading not guilty to new rape charges.

Matthew Nilo was arraigned on seven charges at Suffolk Superior Court Thursday—one count of rape, one count of aggravated rape, three counts of assault with intent to rape, and two counts of indecent assault and battery—in connection to attacks on women that happened between January 2007 and July 2008.

Nilo had been previously charged with rape, kidnapping, and assault back in June stemming from incidents in Charlestown between August 2007 and December 2008. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $500,00 bail.

Police arrested Nilo in New Jersey, where he resided, back in June. Prosecutors said Nilo was living in the North End and working as an attorney at the time of the assaults. After the arraignment, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden thanked the various branches of law enforcement involved in the case for their support in bringing up these charges.

"We hope this provides some solace to the survivors of these attacks," DA Hayden said. "We applaud the investigation from our office, the Boston Police Department, and the FBI, who have stayed dedicated to these many cases over the years."

Nilo is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 14. DA Hayden said he hopes these charges against Nilo serve as a warning to others.

"Mr. Nilo standing in court today should be a reminder that we never relent on these investigations, that we never forget victims and survivors, and we never let time defeat our determination," DA Hayden said.
