BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Tuesday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu alongside city leaders including Police Commissioner Michael Cox announced the city's plan for reducing violence in city neighborhoods this summer.

She said the safety plan addresses the root causes of violence while providing a foundation that keeps city youth and their families active and engaged in the community.

Boston's Senior Adviser for Community Safety Isaac Yablo said he's confident the safety plan can make a difference by keeping city streets safer, especially as temperatures heat up. "Setting the sights on doing better is high," he said. "And we already are doing better," he said noting the significant drop in the city's homicide rate last year.

He also said the safety plan's top priorities are scaling up community and youth programs, providing resources to those affected by violence, and continuing efforts to reduce gun violence.
