BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Michelle Wu made it official on Saturday, officially kicking off her reelection campaign in the South End.
Wu addressed a crowd of nearly a thousand people at the Cyclorama on Tremont Street and said "we face serious challenges in this moment and now is not the time for a mayor who needs on the job training."
She recounted the progress made during her first term, including adding more affordable housing, improving public transportation, and safer street regulations. She added that more work still needs to be done.
“Boston doesn’t need a mayor who has to recuse himself from conflict of interest,” she continued. “We need a mayor whose only interest is Boston.”
Her reelection campaign announcement came hours later after she spoke in front of the massive crowd at City Hall Plaza taking part in Saturday’s “Hands Off” protest.
Running against the incumbent mayor are New England Patriots owner Josh Kraft and community activist Domingos DaRosa.
The primary election is on Sept. 9.
