BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh sent his congratulations to the incoming Biden Administration Saturday, after the AP announced Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had won races in Pennsylvania and Nevada, clinching enough electoral college votes to take the White House.
"Congratulations to my friend President-elect Joe Biden and to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris," Walsh said. "At this challenging time, Bostonians and the American people are speaking loudly and clearly: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will restore character, compassion, and leadership to the White House in one of our greatest moments of need."
Walsh added that Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, in a historic win, has "shattered yet another barrier for women and girls around the world."
"Joe Biden and Kamala Harris recognize that when we protect our democratic values and civil rights, build our economy by lifting up all working families, and celebrate our diversity, we grow stronger as a country," Walsh continued. "We have elected a president who not only wants to bring us together, but genuinely feels as a human being that it’s the only way to govern."
Walsh said Boston will never forget Biden’s visit to the city on the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing, and the way he "comforted and uplifted our entire city." The Mayor also said he was grateful to the President-elect for presiding over his second inauguration as Mayor in 2018.
"In Boston we will be ready on day one to build a powerful partnership with the Biden-Harris Administration," Walsh said. "From battling COVID-19 to combating climate change and ending systemic racism, I could not be more excited to get to work with leaders who see mayors as partners and cities as engines of opportunity and justice."
