Mayor Walsh Introducing "Boston Points" As Way To Pay In The Hub

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) - Boston Mayor Marty Walsh unveiled a new method of paying at certain Boston businesses at a press conference on Tuesday.

The city is launching "B-Local" smartphone app in partnership with the Israeli startup Colu, which will allow residents to redeem "Boston Points" when spending money at certain participating restaurants and vendors.

"Boston Points" would be earned when someone spends money at certain businesses - and could be spent at other redeeming businesses like cash. Each "Boston Point" would be worth a dollar, and the city would reimburse businesses that redeem the points.

The system is intended to reward people who shop at local Boston businesses.
