Mayor Walsh Makes New Immigration Appointment

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has appointed Yusufi Vali as the next director of the Office of Immigrant Advancement.

The 36-year-old worked most recently as executive director of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center.

Vali says his faith, as a Muslim, will help guide his work for all immigrants in the city. "I think it's a new opportunity to live out my values, which at their core for a Muslim, it's all about serving all of God's creation," Vali told WBZ NewsRadio. He says that being appointed director shows that Boston will not succumb to fear mongering.
