BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh attended a local basketball tournament in Mattapan Saturday afternoon.

The annual Scoops and Hoops event was held at Walker Playground.

“I’ve come to this event since I was a candidate for mayor. I never missed it. It’s a great event,” Walsh said. “Everyone talks about Mattapan in a bad light sometimes. Mattapan is a great neighborhood with great people.”

The mayor showed his support for the neighborhood at the event.

“We have work to do to reach out to all the folks that potentially create some of the violence in the city, but I’m not going to disparage any neighborhood in the city, particularly not Mattapan,” Walsh said.
