BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Michelle Wu announced a heat advisory for Boston residents that is in effect through Saturday, August 3.
Wu announced the heat advisory on Thursday, indicating that temperatures will reach into the high 80’s, with the heat index expected to reach the 90’s.
The criteria for a heat index in Boston is three days or more with a heat index of 90 degrees for at least two or more hours per day.
“With the forecast for the coming days reaching extreme temperatures, we encourage all residents to take time to prepare,” said Wu.
“Staying hydrated, taking breaks from working outside, and paying attention to your health are important steps for ensuring our city remains healthy and cool during this hot and humid period.”

Splash pads and city pools are open to people to cool off, as well as public libraries.
City officials recommend that people stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids regardless of activity level, limit outdoor activities to morning and evening hours, use sunscreen containing an SPF-30 or higher, and keep cool with frequent showers, air conditioning, and staying in the shade.
