BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Wu joined dozens of people on a bike ride from City Hall Plaza to the Museum of Science as she announced a new program to make Bluebikes more affordable.
Through the new program announced Thursday, Boston residents will be able to get an annual membership for just $60. Currently, the price for an annual pass is $129.
“Through this program, Boston residents can access an annual Bluebikes membership for less than half the full price,” said Wu.
Mayor Wu also announced that residents who qualify will be able to get the annual pass for just $5. She hopes that the price drops will encourage more residents to use the bikes.
“When the financial barriers come down, the interest is there, the energy is there, and we want to continue making that possible throughout the year.”
While the Orange Line was shut down last year, many Boston residents took advantage of the Bluebikes, which were free until the line reopened.
“The record for Bluebikes usage in a single day was set and then broken nine separate times in that month,” Wu.
