BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Michelle Wu and her Office of Women's Advancement announced a pilot program for a Postpartum Education and Support Group Monday.
The pilot, in partnership with Love Your Menses, will "support and educate Boston residents, particularly Black and Brown women, who have recently given birth or are expecting to give birth soon, and create a safe space for people experiencing pregnancy and postpartum," the Mayor's Office said.
The program consists of free weekly virtual sessions from April 5 to June 5 that will include peer mentorship, consultations with OB/GYN providers, guest speakers, and a postpartum care box, and is limited to 32 participants.
"Ensuring that we are supporting all of our City’s parents during their postpartum period is critical in our work to make Boston a city for everyone," said Mayor Michelle Wu. "I’m grateful to MOWA and Love Your Menses for this free program that will connect and support people experiencing pregnancy and postpartum across our neighborhoods."
"As a first-time mom myself that went through postpartum depression, it is so important to be able to have the information, the support, and also the ability to pick up the phone and call someone when you need to speak to someone, or just simply know how to advocate for yourself during those tough moments," MOWA Executive Director Alexandra Valdez told WBZ NewsRadio Thursday.
