BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA announced more Red Line track improvements will take place in September.

The work is expected to take place from Sept. 6 through Sept. 29 on the Braintree branch of the Red Line, impacting service between JFK/UMass and Braintree. There will be no service at North Quincy, Wollaston, Quincy Center, Quincy Adams and Braintree, but the MBTA is planning to have a shuttle bus as a replacement.

“The work to take place on the Braintree branch in September is unprecedented but long needed,” said MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng. Eng also added that once the necessary repairs are completed, the round-trip commute for riders between Braintree and JFK/UMass stations will save riders up to "24 to 27 minutes a day."

The MBTA also said that once track work is done, they can run service up to the maximum allowable speed of 40 mph.
