BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA is closing two branches of the Green Line north of Boston from Dec. 6-20 for track work and repairs.
Starting on Friday, shuttles will replace service along the E branch from Medford/Tufts to Union Square and on the C branch from North Station to Park Street.
To access Union Square during the closure, riders can use bus Routes 87 and 91; CT2 on weekdays only, or shuttle service departing from the East Somerville station, according to the MBTA.
Riders can also take bus Route 86 from Dec. 6-14, and bus Route 109, which will replace Route 86 service between Harvard and Sullivan Square from Dec. 15-20.

Riders can utilize Orange Line service or shuttle buses from North Station to Downtown Crossing to access the Haymarket, Government Center, and Park Street stations on the Green Line during the closure.
The track work is expected to be the final service suspension in the Track Improvement Program which will lift all slow zones on the T before 2025.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the City of Boston are teaming up to offer free Bluebike access to riders impacted by the closure. Each user can get up to five free Bluebike unlocks during the closure by using the code “MBTAGREENDEC” in the Bluebikes app. The code is eligible for both traditional pedal bikes and ebikes.
According to the MBTA’s speed restriction tracker, this repair work will fix the last two speed restrictions remaining on the T.
