BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has reached a new destination: Android phones.

While Apple users have had access to the MBTA’s official mobile app since November 2024, the MBTA Go app is now officially available to Android users. The free app allows riders to get real-time updates, easily navigate the map, and find out about closures.

Outside the MBTA’s Savin Hill station, Barringer said he thinks the app will improve the overall rider experience.

“It’s helpful to know when the train is coming when you’re on your way. I live right in the neighborhood so sometimes when you leave two minutes later, you miss the train and then you have to wait like 20 minutes,” said Barringer.

Rona is an Android user and checked out MBTA Go for the first time on Wednesday morning.

“I didn’t even know there was an app. I just use Google,” said Rona. “That’s actually cool. I think I should download it.”

According to MBTA officials, 57,000 users have downloaded the app since it was released in November 2024.
