CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA is releasing its first ever ugly sweater this year in light of the holiday season.

The exclusive design features a Green Line light rail vehicle, icons from Boston's skyline and battery powered multi-color LED lights that make the sweater shine. Snowflakes and a large “T” logo also run across the back of the sweater.

Steven Beaucher, who owns MBTAgifts which designs and sells T-related merchandise, said he worked with a New Hampshire artist who created the graphics that are brought to life in this limited-time design.

“I actually think we designed something that is a little above ugly, but we had a lot of fun putting it together,” he said.

Beaucher said he was excited when the MBTA wanted to join other transit companies in rolling out an ugly holiday sweater.

The clothing item comes with a $60 price tag for those who already pre-ordered it, but these early purchases will not ship or be ready for pick up until late October.

The sweater is 100% polyester and machine washable as long as the battery pack is removed beforehand.
