QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA welcomed back Red Line riders on Monday for the first time in nearly a month.
Service between Boston and Braintree was shut down for three and a half weeks to address slow zones. During the interim, service was replaced with shuttle buses.
Kevin, a rider at the North Quincy Station, stopped riding the Red Line during the construction. “I’ve been taking my vehicle instead of dealing with the problems,” he told WBZ NewsRadio.
However, Natalie, another rider, took the shuttle buses to work. Sometimes the commute was two hours long.
“I work at MGH,” she continued. “I don’t like getting up at 6 A.M., so I can be at work by 8 [A.M.]”
This is not the end of service suspensions, though. The MBTA said they still have work to be do to address slow zones on the Red, Orange, and Green lines over the next several months.
From Monday through Thursday, the Mattapan Line between Mattapan and Ashmont will end service early at 11:30 P.M.
On the Green Line D branch, service between Kenmore and Newton Highlands will be suspended Oct. 5 - 6. And service between Riverside and Brookline Hills will be suspended Oct. 19-20.
On the Orange Line, service will be suspended between Forest Hills and Back Bay from Oct. 8-11 and Oct. 15-20. Service between Forest Hills and North state will be suspended between Oct. 12-14. Service between Oak Grove and Ruggles will be suspended Oct. 26-27. And service between Oak Grove and North Station will be suspended from Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
